November 2013, Shocking News

Markel November 2013. Busy at the shop, restoring cars. New project is a 1955 Pontiac 2 Door Safari Star Chief Station Wagon. Make it run and look likes an original interior. Not a simple project as it appears the car is missing way too many things where it came from the body shop. The paint is great…2 tone Burnt Reddish Orange…(Can Can Red is the Color being used) and Cream colored body color. We installed Magnetic Shielding Foil in an E Car, the Chevy Volt. This 80% nickel alloy magnetic shielding foil works well to block EMF waves. This is a huge issue that is becoming more of a concern for folks in this sensitive environment we live and commute in. We use a Gaussmeter to determine the proper shape and positioning inside of client cars. Convertible Tops are still going strong, including Ford Mustang, MBZ SL 500, and even repairing door glass regulator on a client*s 1963 Chevy Nova Convertible. Sometimes, just part of a seat needs to be repaired. Case in point, MBZ C-280, is having the passenger perforated center seat cushion section to be replaced. Not necessary to change everything when you match up the color and perforation style for an exact match. Stay tuned for more photos and comments. MBZ 1960 190 SL

Here was a 190 SL, wherein we removed the front carpeting and installed Original Mercedes Benz Rubber Flooring.

The client had purchased this car, with a strange greenish  wrong color top  on it.  We installed a Correct Black   German Canvas Top,  Made a Black Canvas Boot, Repaired the Front Inner Kick Panels, added New Square Weave Carpeting to the Rear Board and Rear Back.   The  Side Cables were way out of alignment,  corrected that and then installed a Chrome Rear Bow Molding.   The nails were huge and had to be pre drilled, and delicately installed.  Note also that the wrinkles you might see will draw up  when left out in the sun for a few days..  The  seat  back bumpers were non existent.  We made some so it looks great and original.  1960 190 SL MBZ 1960 190 SL MBZ 1960 190 SL MBZ 1960 190 SL MBZ

October @ Markels

Been  a  busy summer and now fall @  Markel’s.  Lots of Upholstery Jobs, big and small, 740 I New Drivers Seat and Back to Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Simple Furniture, Complex Furniture, Lots of Orthopedic Seat Adjustments on different cars, specifically horrific factory seat positioning on VW Jetta.  We completed a 1968 Chevy Impala for a ton of restoration work. Ferrari’s have been coming in due to Dash Shrinkage all over the place. Wherein we remove the cluster and upholster it,  amend and repair as necessary the  pillar posts. other parts of the front and rear dashes in these all leather clad interiors.

Recently visiting the Enchanting Island of  Bali,  has  given me a new perspective on present and future of  life in and out of an automobile.  Be comfortable is probably the most important thought in that direction. No matter where or what you are doing, or not doing.  Coupled with  eternal vigilance keeps your eye on the target.  Enjoy some of the pictures of projects in works.

Another  feature of our work here is the amelioration of  EMF’s using Magnetic Shielding Foil.  Whether you are driving a Toyota Prius, Highlander, Tesla, or Chevy Volt, you are all sitting in of intense electric waves of energy that some people feel are not good for you.

The 1949 Mercury Convertible  was finally picked up by our client after resting here for well over a year.  Came out  great,  except the  delay in timing on pickup.

At this time of year it is one of deep reflection for all our blessings and friends,  loved ones and acquaintances.

Summer’s almost gone.

Summer might be drawing to a close,  but the need for convertibles in Southern California is keeping folks  Tops down and  Sunglasses on.

Ferrari F355 GTS Dash Repair

Ferrari F355 GTSFerrari’s like Rolls Royces, Masaratti’s, some BMW’s, Aston Martin’s and other exclusive manufacturers have a penchant for using leather on their dashboards.

Exposed to the Sun, things seem to shrink pretty quickly.  Leather will even bend metal with enough heat and time.

This vehicle had shrinkage everywhere.

Worst was the instrument cluster and airbag fascia above the glove-box.

Taming Mustangs

Ford Mustang 2005 Ford Mustang 2005 Ford Mustang“My Convertible Top Mechanism Won’t Work Day”

This happens often enough that it is not a coincidence.  2 Identical 2005 Mustangs come to my shop because in both instances, The tops are not operating normally.

One has a dead motor, so in an effort to keep the costs down for client,  they have opted out of repairing / replacing the motor and instead, we disconnected the hydraulic system and made the top work manually.  Not easy,  but it will work.
Sometimes,  you have to find the simplest solution to a larger problem.

2nd Mustang is low on fluid, so we are looking for any possible leaks in the hydraulic lines and cylinders and filling up the motor so the system works again.

Weird in that the Mustangs are both Silver/Black.  One client a Raider Nation member and sporting the fan license plate frame.

3rd Mustang had upholstery repair on the drivers seat back. With a happy client he came back to have us install a New Black Canvas top and Glass window.
